Working in an Agency v/s Innie

What's your experience been? What are the pros & cons with regards to
design process, org structure, work environment, career pathing etc.

(Note: I excluded going independent & the academic route because they
can potentially be quite different)

IxDA Local Face-to-Face group in Lisbon

Lisbon was invited to have a Face to Face group, we already have some
bases, anyone that what to be part of this initiative it's welcome.

We have relations with Universities in Portugal and Portuguese
speaking countries like Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Timor, and Cabo
Verde.

We will try to read Lisbon particular way of doing things and confront
it to the local and global IXD practices, ( globalization it's a
concept developed by Zygmunt Bauman and Professor Roland Robertson),
and for that we will be bilingual soon (English, Portuguese).

We have a reunion place, dates, 15 people group and a

What's the difference between Delete and Remove?

I was discussing this very question with some friends and co-workers and
wanted to get other designers thoughts on this one.

The definition of "Delete" includes remove;

Delete: to strike out or remove (something written or printed); cancel;
erase; expunge.

But "Remove" does not include "Delete";

Remove: to move from a place or position; take away or off...

(cursory search via Dictionary.com)

I think about deleting as removing too. But I think about removing as, well,
re-moving.

interactive exhibition design

Dear Ixda,

i'm currently enrolled in the Interaction Design MA at Interaction
Design Institute + Domus Academy in Milan.
I recently started to work on my thesis project that deals with
interactive exhibition design focusing on "Made in Italy" topic as
project content,
according to the foundation i'm working with as advisor.

I would like to kindly ask you to suggest me some recent projects or
companies that work with interactive exhibitions.
I'm still collecting information, but i guess that this ML would add
some precious hints to my research.

A preliminary collection of

Recap: Chicago IxDA's Pattern Libraryconversation

I asked the same question in the late nineties of some architect friends. My office was located on the same block as the AIA and there were several firms within a few hundred feet. What they told me was that the idea has ever been widely accepted as optimal outside of the academic world. In fact it was met with ridacule when the book was first published. One of them referred to it as cookie cutter architecture. Certainly not a gauge on the entire profession...

work with business analyst

This may have been discussed before, but I'm unable to find the thread
other than one in 2004 about business process analyst.
I would like to know from you all any experience you have working with
business analyst. How you work together side by side on projects in
terms of roles and process?
I know some company don't have UX or ID roles, BAs wear all the hats. I
would like discuss only the scenario of UX/ID and BA coexist here.

Thanks,
Kun

Chinese Speaking UX people in NYC meet up?

Hello,

I am looking for Chinese speaking UX people in the NY metropolitan area for a monthly meet-up. Please email me directly if you are interested, and please let me know if such a group already exists :-)

The meet-up hopefully can help us stay on top of trends in China. Practice talking about the industry in Chinese for those who are learning the language. Also a good professional group for those who moved here and are adjusting can talk about your interests and your work in your own language.

I am a native speaker who have lived in the states for 15 years.

Results of Openness of Design Environments query

Hi, everyone.

Thanks again to the many of you (45!!) who responded to my
query a few weeks ago, asking about the openness of your work
environments.

I did, indeed, compile everything into something. I have
no idea how accurate or useful it is, but I did my best.

Rather than sending around documents to the whole list,
I've published the info via Google Docs at the links
below (the urltea link is shorter, but the other one
is the 'official' published spreadsheet key).
