10/16 Event: Eye-Tracking for Usability Testing [NYC-UPA]

NYC Usability Professionals Association presents:

*Eye-Tracking for Usability Testing*

Seeing what people do and hearing what they say is the heart of usability
research. But what's the brain doing? We used eye-tracking technology to
watch hundreds of people's eyes as they used the Web, doing a plethora of
different tasks and using different websites. Seeing exactly what the user
is looking at – and not looking at – is like getting to sneak into his brain
for a little while. Kara Pernice will discuss how she conducted this
research and present some of the findings from it.

BBC iPlayer interface

Hi,

I was just reading PC Pro's review of the BBC iPlayer:

It reminded me how awful the interface was. I don't know if there have been
any discussions so far about iPlayer, or similar services (4oD is not much
better) - but it seems to me these content providers are shooting themselves
in the foot.

Graffiti & IXD

I'm a retired graffiti writer, pioneer of this type of manifestation
in Lisbon, Portugal, at the same time that I've graduated in
communication design (1999).

After graduation and one year in Prague I have quitted practicing, the
mercantilist society that we live in take over graffiti in Lisbon,
cans clothes even mass media adopted the language, and the dream of 10
young creative minds (that I was one) was drown by the incontrollable
mass of new writers that without any criteria made many mistakes
transforming Lisbon as many other cities full of visual noise that
have plasticity but associate

Hello, everyone! I need some help with my dissertation, and I wish I
took take a minute of your time to help me collect some information
about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), specially regarding the
INTERACTION DESIGN PROCESS in different countries:

1- Does your company/office have any specific practice to protect
(IPR), including Copyright, Design Right, Design Registration,
Patents?

2- If YES, how does your company/office disseminate such practices?
(eg. Training? Employee Hand Book?)

3- Are you familiar with how such practices are regulated in your
country? (eg. Legislation?

Interview Questions - For interviewing a teamlead/mgr

Try to get him/her to go "off script" and talk candidly. Depending on
the cultural context, a little slang can go a long way (along with
relaxed body language etc).

- "What's the crappiest job you ever had? Why?"
- "What was the most awesome job you ever had? What made it awesome?"
- (Repeat the first 2 with "manager" in place of "job" if you want to
know what the person's leadership role model/anti-hero are like)
- "What's the hardest thing you've ever had to deal with as a
manager/leader?

Interview Questions - For interviewing a team lead/mgr

Hi All,

I know there's been discussions before about interview questions, but
I don't think there's been discussion on this kind. I've got to
interview a potential teammate who might end up leading us. I'm
curious from those that have been through this as to good questions to
ask to get a good indication of what that person will be like to work
with, as well as possibly work for.

Any guidance would be great!
