sliders & sparklines combined

Nice use of AJAX. I like this except that it is very low on the page,
and the page scrolls down thus you can't change parameters and see
the change dynamically. Flash/Flex would allow you to do this very
easily. Without instructions (unless it's clear in Swedish) of some
sort - verbal or visual - it can be a tad confusing. I like the bars
(available results) above the slider.

Using color to identify content, or types of action, or both?

I'm working on a web app that has a brand color palette with 6 bright, bold
colors:

- very dark blue/black
- baby blue
- magenta/pink
- yellow
- orange
- lime green.

The app needs to have a young, vibrant feel to it and I've been thinking
about how to best use these colors.
One way is to use the colors to color-code types of action. Right now I have
the magenta to indicate 'action'. Green can mean 'save' or 'confirm' and
yellow or orange can be used for error messages.

But I'm also drawn to the idea of using the colors to identify types of
content within the app.

Agreed that we won't see it soon, but I don't agree that I would ever
love to see it.

As I've argued many times before (http://tinyurl.com/35gqm8),
standardization of design documentation in our business is in many
ways a sure-fire recipe for stagnation, especially if the product

JOB: Information Architect, 1 hr from Manhattan, Kubisys Inc., Contract

Our company is looking to hire an Information Architect on a consulting
basis.

Location:

NY - 1 hour from Manhattan.

Project:

Re-evaluation of the current site of a high profile government client

Task:

Describe in flow-charts the information flow of the current web-site.

Work with the client to determine what new design is required.

Produce flow-charts and wireframes describing the new design.

Graphics and fonts are NOT in the scope of this task.

A Usability Question

Hi all,

I'm not sure how usability works other places, but at my company we
currently run mostly functional usability testing where the user has
to complete a task. When they complete a task with minimal
effort/confusion/etc. then that is deemed a successful outing. If not
well you get the point.

We are currently looking to test new concepts that I know will confuse
most users since the idea is so new to them.

Hourly rates?

Hi there,

How do you calculate hourly rates? Is there a formula that can help you
extrapolate from a yearly salary?

I have a freelance job that's 20 hours a week for the next 3 months, working
remotely--I feel I should charge less than I would for a short-term project
but more than I would for a full-time gig.

What do you think?

Can anyone give me a clue about industry standards in New York for a Senior
IA and/or Creative Director?

I'd be happy to hear anyone's experiences with this.
