Rules for Humane Interaction Design

Usability issues for a humane interface

Jef Raskin wrote a book called "The Humane Interface". It deals with
fundamental issues of interaction design for any computer based system.

A nearly one page summary of design rules
by Jef Raskin

The first principle. When using a product to help you do a task, the
product should only help and never distract you from the task.

Definition: A gesture is an action that you finish without conscious
thought once you have started it. Example: For a beginning typist,
typing the letter "t" is a gesture.

Additional Reception Ticket on SIGCHI

Hello all IXDers!

Can anybody tell me what rights give the "Additional Reception Ticket" which
I can buy with my CHI-2008 registration procedure? What is the purpose of
this ticket?
I cannot find any words about this one on the official site (
http://chi2008.org/)

Career Question

Hello:

I am a RN pursuing my masters in informatics. Where would
one get the training or the experience to become an
interaction designer for medical devices and such? What must
their background or previous degree contain? And are there
any companies looking for such clinicians turned interaction
designers? Where are they? Thanks... Any suggestions, directions or
comments would be welcome.

When to go backwards

I've
been an IA on the web for more than10 years. Back in the old days I was
considered a thought leader. We were making it up as we went along. We
were trailblazers. Well, time has passed and my ways are now old
school. I admit I haven't been developing at the same pace as the
industry has. I woke up recently and decided I have a lot to learn and
that I need to invest in my long term career development by both
brushing up on the fundamentals and keeping up with what's new. I
believe I am over-employed at the moment and I'm starting to struggle.
I think it's time to make a change.

Zooming in for more detail

Hello IxDA list! This is my first post, so I apologize if it's not
quite how one is supposed to use the list, but I figured I'd give it a
shot.

Online newspaper software?

Does anyone know of a well designed, highly usable, open source, online
newspaper software?

I need the usual ability to post, edit, archive and delete articles, and I
need a "community" events calendar and classified ads. If no open source
software covers all of these, perhaps some of you could recommend individual
solutions for the events calendar and for classified ads.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have a no budget pro bono client :).
