Data on "back to top" links

Does anyone have any data on the effectiveness of "back to top" links?
Are they any better than just scrolling back up?

Best regards,
Russ

Hi All,

Needed some advice on the upcoming UPA conference - are these useful
for practitioners? How about from an academic point of view?

Thanks,
Oliver

International Journal of Design: Cultural Aspects of Interaction Design | Design News

http://www.dexigner.com/design_news/international-journal-of-design-cultural-aspects-of-interaction.html

the link above is a CFP that I'm not connected with, but find to be
incredibly interesting personally and relevant to this community in
particular.

The call is from the Internal Journal of Design for papers on the
topic of "cultural aspects of interaction design".

cultural aspects of IxD interest me as an anthropologist and as a
designer.

This is the ultimate power switch WAS: Power icon

It is of course the venerable Illuminated rocker

All software designs should try to carry over as many as possible of its
excellent qualities:

- Two distinct states
- It is immediately clear if it is "on" or "off"
- Audible and tactile feedback
- Clear and understandable marking

Plus it adheres to standards.
