Use Case / Requirements Management Tools

Hi Everyone,

My company is currently looking into tools to manage use cases and
requirements.

Since these terms can mean a wide variety of things I'll give an example of
how we're using them:

*Requirement:* The product should be secure and protect the safety and
privacy of the user.
*Use Case:* The user logs on to the system.
*Sub-use case/scenario:* The user has mistyped their password while logging
in.
*Associated features: *Login screen, password security feedback, lost
password functionality, error feedback system.
*Associated users/actors: *Child, parent, administrator

At what point does a mailing list become counter-productive?

Here goes ...

First, I admit that I am not an IA but rather a developer who believes
in creating a synergy with IAs and designers to help solve our common
problems.

That being said, this list has become unmanageable.

There are great discussions happening here but it is becoming
increasingly hard to find them amongst the job postings, event
announcements, feel-good off-topic questions, and especially the
numerous snarky replies. I mean there were 15 replies to the Nannybot
etiquette post ...

What project management tool do you use?

I'm specifically looking for enterprise level, cross functional usage- feel
free to chime in even if thats not the case. I was surprised to find out
that many companies don't use one (in conversations with people, nothing
formal...any data would be appreciated)
My experience with them is limited to using Basecamp (does it scale well for
enterprise use?) for the Interactions 08 conference- which I thought worked
really well. We currently use a mishmash of email, a document storage tool
and a wiki, there is a lot of waste, redundancies and inconsistencies in the
process.

sites with icon systems as visual focus?

Can anyone point to examples of web sites/applications that use only
graphic icons (no photography) and text/graphic type in the design?
Ideally I am looking for visually sophisticated sites that use icon
systems to label the content.

Fighting trolls

Whenever there's a forum, there are three kinds of trolls:
1. automated spambots selling viagra
2. abusers(page wideners, goatse, etc)
3. n00bs who won't search for answers first

#1 is solved by captchas

#2 is solved by not allowing html tags and breaking down long words

For #3... How do we force new users to search for answers before
creating a duplicate thread on issues that has been addressed already?
In many forums, new members are not allowed to post for x amount of
days.

Why beauty matters to IxD (a blog compilation)

Awhile back a question was put to the ixda list: does aesthetics/
beauty matter to IxD?

I've finally compiled on my blog some key thoughts on this, which date
back to 2001 while writing my graduate thesis at CMU about beauty as
an experiential value of user-product interactions (and iterated in
various papers/talks I've given at IDSA, IA Summit, and most recently
last fall's World Design Congress in SF).

I hope ixda readers find this compilation thought-provoking and
useful...
