The slow-rise phenomenon

A friend shared a quick fact with me today that reminded me of an
interesting phenomenon. Two quick stories: 1. My friend told me that he made
a few small changes to his site about a week ago, and today, he noticed his
page views have doubled. The first few days that the new design was live,
nothing changed. Now, he has twice the page views. 2. A few months ago, I
worked on the WordPress.com homepage, using some small tweaks to make the
Sign-up method more prominent. The first full day the change went live,
conversions went up 12%, but a week later the conversion rate had increased
by 25%.

How to study abroad for Interaction Design or Human factor?

Hi all, I have some questions in how to apply master's degree around the
world... Would you give me some suggestions about my plan to study?
I need all your help, thank you very much!

I'm from China, and I have graduated from university with a BA. in
Industrial Design (Jun.2005).
I've worked in Yahoo! China for almost 2 years as UI Designer and Web
Developer. After 2 years working experience, I was aware of that I need to
study for a master's degree of Interaction Design or Human factor.
Unfortunately, there is no such degree in China.

Best practices to evangelize UX design?

What are some of the strategies that you have used to evangelize UX and
usability practices in your company?

The following are some tips that I think works

Showing videos of users frustrating experience with the product

Measuring user experience of the new design and publicizing (using wall
posters or by blogging on the web site) how improved the product is for the
user.
Anything you can add ?

Interaction Design in an Agile Environment

What are your thoughts on Interaction Design and the Agile Environment?

Here’s my experience of how extreme programming and design mix:

1) Product requirements are one thing today, another tomorrow, based
mainly on strategic (not user) feedback
2) Weekly iteration cycles allow 4-5 days for research, prototyping
and documentation of design
3) Little time is left for contextual inquiries - the product becomes
the "company’s" vision rather than the consumer’s asked-for solution
4) “Featuritis” is a full-blown epidemic
5) Redesign of the entire syste

Is Eye Tracking too expensive or complicated?

Hey All,

I just put together about Eye Tracking
(http://www.insideria.com/2008/04/is-eye-tracking-out-of-reach.html)
but I thought I'd put the question out to the list:

"Why isn't eye tracking used more in design and testing of rich
internet applications?"

I really have no experience with it, but am going to be working with
it this summer so looking for thoughts from some of you more
experienced with usability testing and eye tracking.

RANT: OmniGraffle Leopard Version

Am I just retarded or is the canvases window in the new OmniGraffle
really confusing? The icons next to each layer only tell you which
ones are NOT active, not the ones that are (i.e., visible icons
indicate a negative, not a positive). And when you mouse over, a bunch
of icons come up that are hidden under the cursor. I'm constantly
selecting the wrong layers to show and hide because I can't tell
what's going on, which makes me feel very dumb indeed.

Let the voting commence:

A. [ ] User is retarded
