ING sues PNC over alleged similarities of Web sites

Interesting enough it has to do a bit with the user interface on the
PNC Virtual Wallet site:

"The site features several orange balls used to highlight products and
services PNC offers. ING alleges that PNC's use of the orange balls
could confuse customers who associate the orange balls with ING."

MS Office Fluent user interface

Happy Friday everyone,

I'm working on an interface for a new product and considering using the MS
fluent user interface as a model instead of your basic menus. I've been
googling it this morning and there's actually a surprising lack of UX
writing on the subject - or I am simply not finding it.

I don't want to use something without having a good understanding of it
first. I did read this from MS

Which is a fine overview but doesn't quite get too deep.

Basic time tracking and invoicing for a solo consultant

I'm neck-deep in looking at various options for doing basic time tracking
and invoicing just for me, not a whole agency. I've wasted a ton of time on
this and figured I'd tap the collective wisdom here.
Up until about a year ago I used a pretty simple timer on my Treo and an
Excel spreadsheet for the invoices.

[Event - Recap] Chicago Happy Hour - August

Last night was a great, low-key happy hour event in Chicago! A big thank you
to Chris Bernard at Microsoft for sponsoring the drinks, which were much
appreciated by the folks who attended. It was also interesting to see the
showcased work for the Olympics, Hard Rock cafe, and several other sites
shared by Chicago's interaction designers - truly inspirational.

Here's a recap of some of the announcements of the evening, followed by job
postings gathered from the RSVPs.

ISO 20282: Ease of Use of Everyday Products

I followed links this morning to learn a bit more about a newly released ISO
standard for usability: ISO 20282. I haven't read the standard itself yet
(stuff to do), just the brief commentaries.

Interactive prototyping / wireframing

Ok, so I know this topic has come up before, but I would really like advice
from the community on what tools they are using to create interactive
prototypes and wireframes.

I have always used something like Visio, OmniGraffle, Illustrator, Indesign
type tools to create static wireframe specifications, but I am really keen
to start creating interactive documents/prototypes to demonstrate
functionality.

I have started researching tools to do this including:

Fireworks
Flash
I-Rise
Axure
Thermo (when it gets released)

I would love to hear from anyone using such tools during the design phase,
