looking for an article

Does anyone have a reference or know of an article that specifically
describes the difference between designing and producing mocks (using
photoshop)? A college asked and, had I the time, I would just write
it... but I do not right now. Thanks.

Agile & UX

I'm a user experience specialist that came into a company already using
agile practices. When I first got there I tried to jump straight into the
sprints with interaction designs.

Nice trick. Unfortunatelly some JS/DOM bug just generated endless focus-loop
between Zip Code and Contact Phone fields in my FF3. Implementation still
matters ;].

[Plug] How to be UX Team of One - November 12

[Apologies for cross-posting]

I wanted to get the word out about a virtual seminar that I'll be
hosting next week on a topic that's very near and dear to my heart:
how to be a user experience team of one.

This seminar is based on a presentation that I gave at the IA Summit
earlier this year, but it'll be a deeper exploration of the challenges
that small teams and lone UX practitioners face.

question for tablet pros -- where do you use it?

Other than, "On the computer".

Where do you use it relative to your keyboard -- which I'm (incorrectly)
assuming is directly in front of you. Do you hold it on your lap? Put
it where your mouse pad would go? Prop it on the keyboard?

I'm just getting around to learning to use an Intous3 6x9 with photoshop
and I have it where I'd normally have my mouse pad (I use the Intous
mouse as my regular mouse much of the time).

But it feels really awkward, as I normally draw with a sketchbook or pad
in my lap or on a drawing table.

Agile & UXD

What are your experiences in an agile environment? What has worked for
you and what hasn't?

My organization is considering employing agile, and I tend to be of the
opinion that UXD needs to be at the forefront of the process thinking
about things holistically - then breaking the project into chunks that
will eventually result in a complete user experience.

2008 Election ballot design: a report from an expert

Wondering what to expect in ballot usability issues this year? I was too.
Dana Chisnell at usabilityworks.net has been working on U.S. ballot design
and usability, and she answered some big questions in this short interview
and what we should expect this time around (She also offers advice on how
designers can help). Here's an excerpt:

SB. Typically whose job is it to actually design local and state election
ballots? Is there any training required to do this job?

DC: It's different in different places. In many states, the secretary of
state issues a ballot template.

Research on ebook usage preference

Hello,
I'm looking for any research you could share that relates to the use of ebooks and possible user preference on its delivery format (true to text vs. not).

Thanks in advance for any insight or documents you can point me to.

Best,
Fabio Fernandes
