Select items in a paginated list

I have a paginated list of items. The user selects an item by clicking on a
checkbox. The checkbox selection, by default only applies to the items on
that page. So if you select 5 items on the first page and then navigate to
the second to select a few more, the items on the first page do not get
considered for any actions while still on the second page.
I'm working on an 'expert' tool, where the desire is to be able to select
items on multiple pages (assume there is no way to filter all of results on
the same page).

Topic: Interaction Design Pattern - Chessboard layout

I'm in the process of finding pros and cons for a specific menu system based
closely on this pattern described here back inn 1999:
What is not clearly stated in the Uidesign paper is that if you select a
topic in the left hand menu it "sticks" to that choice until you make
another choice in the left hand menu. Same goes for top menu.

So choosing a subject in the left menu and then clicking a infotype in the
top menu.

IxDA Infrastructure Initiative, re-launched

Dear IxDA Members,

I’m pleased to be re-launching an initiative dedicated to delivering
next-generation infrastructure for IxDA.org.

If you’re an avid IxDA list reader, you may have seen mention of this
infrastructure initiative over the past few months. Nasir Barday,
another IxDA Director, and myself have been the core team, working
with other Board members and several other leaders in our community.
We were moving rather quickly towards finalizing our feature list and
creating an RFP for development resources.

User Experience Guidelines for Dot Matrix Displays

I am in the process of concept design for the user interface for a 2 line 16
character dot matrix display for HVAC controls.

Can you point me to User experience guidelines for such displays?

Also, if there is any literature on soft key & button management please let
me know.

Appreciate the help.

Paperback swamp?

Does anyone have an account on this, or a similar site? If a bunch of us
joined, I bet we could do pretty well circulating some very relevant titles.
