Risk Assessment (was: How many alternatives, concepts, or sketches are enough?)

Thanks Doug! Indeed, identifying important relevant factors and coming up
with estimates and corresponding probabilities for innovation/products and
services that will not exist for a number of years, is an interesting
challenge! Won't you join us in trying to figure that out? :)

Risk Assessment (was: How many alternatives, concepts, or sketches are enough?)

Hi Christine,

Your description of a risk assessment model sounds like an echo from my business school days. Yes, such models are commonly used in business planning.

The basic elements include the relevant external economic/social context and internal (company or foundation) conditions at discrete intervals (e.g. years, quarters, or months) over the period of time for which you are planning. Explore the best- and worst-case scenarios for the world and the foundation within the world. Select a most-likely scenario or several likely scenarios within the best-to-worst range.

Long list with multi-select

I'm looking for a solutions for a form that includes a very long list of
items, where user needs to select one or more items in the list. User needs
to have a sense of what has been selected (or number of items that have been
selected). User needs to be able to jump quickly to items in the list that
they want.

Traditionally, this is solved by a listbox where multiple items can be
selected (using Ctrl-Click).

Corporate website redesign, where to put intranet access?

Perhaps call the employe login link: "Remote Employee Login", as
that sounds like what it does.

Instead of "Corporate Information", perhaps "About [companyname]"

I've seen the "graphics" section of many corporate web sites
called "Press Kit", "Media Kit", and "[companyname] In The
News", depending on what's really there, and for whom it's

Quality standard of interaction design

For most proceeding projects in our organization, we all meet the same
problem -- how to evaluate the quality of interaction design results of a
specific web-based service. Are there any standards existing in this field?
Or we have to do many usability testing to any interaction modules in any
iteration procedures?

Actually, the quality evaluation request is from the management board of the
company. They wanna control the quality of every ring of the chain.

I had ever thought that if I could use design pattern library as the

Company Index/Directory Examples

I am starting to research the best design for an online company
directory/index. Each of the companies and organizations included will
fall into one over-arching market. Within this market companies or
organizations might fall into sub categories–so perhaps the use of
tags would be helpful. Search would also need to be conducted by the
starting letter. The concept is to initially make the directory
populated by the creator, but eventually the idea is to allow the
community to populate the directory.

Does anyone have examples of online directories that they find
