Interaction Design help

Hi,

I'm a researcher at the University of Victoria working on a huge
archive of Orca (Killer Whale) song, called the Orchive
(http://orchive.cs.uvic.ca).

I've come up with a website, but it desperately needs interaction
design help. Any suggestions for how we could make this free archive
more useful for researchers would be very welcome.

This Thursday, Feb. 26th (18:00 GMT / 1pm EST / 10am PST) I will be giving a webinar on Bringing Design to Life: What Every Designer Should Know about Interface Engineering. This is part of the Rosenfeld Future Practice Webinar series (a joint venture of Smart Experience and Rosenfeld Media).

For the last 25 years I have been focused in the world of user interface creation. At times I have concentrated on design and at other times on interface engineering. I have also held both responsibilities at once (e.g., leading a UX team while leading two interface engineering teams).

iTouch+iPhone Usability

I was wondering if anyone had researched the interaction model for
product tours for the iPhone interface.

I did use the sdk to build a simple interface which realigned itself
when horizontal as well as linked to videos. I also found PangeaVR an
interesting tool to view equirectangular images on the iPhone.

Currently I'm working on finance calculators for the sales department
which use drop downs and slider controls. However, I haven't seen any
application used as a product brochure yet.

Successful designers must influence productdirection and strategy

"If designers want to affect those decisions they must learn to look at the
world from strategy executives' perspectives just as they look at the world
from their users' perspectives when designing products for them."

Your dead on with this concept, however I would love to hear more about how
designers can gain executive perspectives.
Often exec's are not openly discussing their priorities, projections or
their vision to designers.
What are some action items that designers can take to solve this problem?

Questions regarding the use of arrows with navigational flyout menus

Looking to get some feedback on your experiences regarding the use of
fly-out menus within top-level website navigation. Here is a link to a
JPEG file that provides three examples:

1. Linked in
2. New York Magazine
2 Yahoo Travel

Each example uses arrows next to several of the navigation labels to
indicate additional options. However not all act consistently with
some requiring just a simple roll-over while others a physical click.

Submit to the infusion project for IDSA

IDSA is in Miami this September and they are looking for submissions (due
March 6).
They are specifically looking for IxD related stuff (not only IxD, but
definitely IxD stuff).
