Kinetic Design (Core77 article)

for all you hardware interaction designers, this bit was just an
amazing piece on Core77 about Kinetic Design. I think some of us
might think this is just "interaction design", but to me the
discussion of aesthetics of motion really touches my heart string in
a wondrous way. There was this Pratt ID student I met a couple of
years ago who did his thesis on this, and it also really resonated
with me back then.

Zuckerberg doesn\'t care about users.

Owen Thomas from Valleywag has an article entitled Even Facebook
Employees Hate the Redesign which contains the following excerpt

The feedback on Facebook's new look, which emphasizes a stream
of Twitter-like status updates, is almost universally, howlingly
negative. Why isn't CEO Mark Zuckerberg listening to users?

Design Samples for Client Workshop

This is going to come off rather broad but I am throwing it out there
anyways. I am going into a client workshop series this coming week and
I have prepared a list of core areas for improvement based on both
their current product as well as research documentation provided by
the client. Without too many details, I am presenting the 5 keys to
success as:

1. Search and Retrieval (2000+ products)
2. Layout and Navigation (IA)
3. Ecommerce (|From a design perspective)
4. Content Delivery (Making it related / relevant etc.)

Bowman leaves Google

Posted without comment, even though I very much feel Google just lost
an amazing talent for no good reason:

Designers, meet the Drupal community!

Hi everyone,

I joined the ixda mailing list 3 years ago and it has contributed
immensely to my personal growth as an ixd practitioner. The in-depth
design discussions in this community are a true treasure trove.

However, even with 10'000 members, I consider it still somewhat one of
the internet's "best kept secrets". IMHO, the current website doesn't
succeed well in representing the power of this community.

I've been glad to learn about the plans to revamp the ixda site.

Interaction Design from a visual communication perspective

I have recently joined the IxDA Basecamp and made the following
announcement. Jeremy Yuille has convinced me to post it in the main
discussion list too for a wider input from the IxD community:

"Hi IxD community,

I’m Dave Wood a lecturer in Interaction Design from the UK. I’m based
in Liverpool and I’m engaged in part-time doctoral study at Edinburgh
College of Art on a practice-based PhD.

Between now and 2013 I will be researching interaction design from a
visual communication perspective.

Berkeley's MIMS vs Carnegie Mellon's MDes in IxD

I'm considering two different options in grad schools right now. I'm currently a User Experience Designer working mostly in research (discoveries and analytics), usability testing, information
architecture and wireframing for websites and web based applications. I'm interested in developing mobile interfaces, both virtual and tangible.
