Validating personas

I'm hoping to find out if anyone else on the list has done this.

We're currently in the middle of a persona development project. One
of the leaders of the project has expressed a desire to validate the
personas. In other words, conduct a survey of our user base to find
out whether the characteristics illustrated in the personas match our
actual users.

The personas were developed based on field research with about two
dozen customers.

Design Values: Quality of Data over Ease of Data Collection

I've written a post for my company's external design blog, that might be of interest to this list. It's a follow-up to John Schrag's post on "Values in Software Design Practice<http://dux.typepad.com/dux/2009/07/values-in-software-design-practice-.html>."

The original post described the values my team believes contribute to a healthy software design practice.

IxDA Atlanta 2009 Holiday Event

Looking to add some creative spark to your holiday season? Then come
to the IxDA Atlanta 2009 Holiday Event! The event will spotlight the
design of unusual things with two unique games: a white elephant gift
exchange and a mystery object identification challenge. Participants
in the optional gift exchange should bring one wrapped item, either
an object from home that they would like to give away, or a purchased
gift of $15-$20. Gifts should be associated with a design concept of
some kind. Participation in the mystery object challenge is free and
open to everyone.

Dustin Curtis, UX Design, and American Airlines

(apologies if this has been posted before - I didn't find it in the
list archives)

Start here: http://dustincurtis.com/incompetence.html
It's a story about user experience and American Airlines, both in the
real world and their online presence. The main blog post links back
to Curtis' original complaint about AA's horrid user experience, and
to a response he received from an Interaction Designer inside the
company. Who was then outed and fired.

At heart it's a small story about fitting user experience into a (big)
corporate culture.
