[Event] IxDA NYC presents UX Show and Tell with Chris Avore

IxDA NYC is pleased to present

UX Show and Tell with Chris Avore

UX Show and Tell is a casual workshop that’s all about the work, where you
get feedback on your UX, IA and IxD deliverables from practitioners instead
of stakeholders.

Because let's face it: even the most involved practitioners of the UX
community have few places to share work with other helpful colleagues in a
face to face environment.

Even if you don't have something to show, help your fellow IA's, designers,
and researchers by sharing solutions with those who are showing work.

The Format

Re-cap of November Event Steve Portigal presents “Yes, My Iguana Loves to Cha-Cha: Improv, Creativity and Collaboration.”

On November 19 Steve Portigal presented “Yes, My Iguana Loves to Cha-Cha:
Improv, Creativity and Collaboration.” We’d like to thank our special guest
speaker for engaging us in a relaxed, informative, and truly interactive
evening of improv games that gave us fresh ways of thinking about our
creative work. Steve did a fantastic job facilitating a nicely-paced mix of
slide presentation, exercises with audience members, and subsequent group
discussion in which the room was openly engaged.

Deciding whether to use a "Show n items per page" control

Hi all,

How do you decide whether to include a means to control how many list
items to display?

In an earlier thread (http://www.ixda.org/discuss.php?post=46070),
someone pointed to 37Signals' "Getting Real," in which they
suggest that preferences like these are a cop-out, a little decision
that one shouldn't force on the user.

Rather like the sequencing design that returns your card at the ATM before
your cash in order to prevent you walking off without your card (which would
surely be the case if your card was returned after the cash), this sort of
real-world behavioural psychology analogies really help sell in our skil

Looking for trends in the user experience design of e-commerce (shopping) sites

Hi all,

I am currently doing some research on trends in the user experience
design of e-commerce (shopping) sites.

- Which trends are you observing?
- Which concepts work/do not work based on your experience or user
research results?

(i.e., dragging and dropping products into shopping carts, facetted
search, etc.)

I am looking for trends in both fields:
- User research
- User experience design

Thanks a lot in advance.

Vera

Starting a career in IxD, UX, IA

Being just recently graduated from college, its seemingly very hard to
find an entry level/associate level job since I don't have the
experience and years required to get started. I was thinking I might
have to start with a web design/development job to get my foot in the
door and then gradually transition over once I have some experience
under my belt. Just wondering what approach has worked for others
that has been successful.

Thanks,

chris
