How real and valuable is "above the fold" realestate?

Check out google labs browser size app. It shows what percentage of
people can see the parts of your page. I'm not sure how they got the
data, I don't think browsers report their size, do they? Well anyway,
for whatever its worth it may help you quantify your fold issue.

How real and valuable is "above the fold" real estate?

First off: all the best wishes for this new year. Lets make it a usable one.

Some clients (as well as some graphic designers) I work with still talk
about "above the fold" real estate. They seem to see this as a somewhat
measurable space (in pixels) and tribute a lot of value to it.

Page Load Time Research

Is anyone aware of any usability studies that address page load time
and impact to the users' experience and perception of a site? I'm
creating a page load service level agreement for a web app and would
like it if I had some research that reinforced my recommendation
(I'm recommending a 2 second maximum for the login process). If you
are aware of anything specific to homepages and login, that would be
even better.
