Localized UX research in France or doing research in another country and language

does anyone have any general experiences to share about doing research
in another country in a language no one on your team speaks?

More specifically, has anyone used any research agencies in France?

Visualizing User Experience

How do you visualize what you do? What are your favorite existing
visualizations (like the ones posted recently) that are out in the
world that you like to reference.

I'm in the process of putting together the picture of the services
my team will provide and I'm looking for some inspiration!

Career advancement

I'd like to get some input from the design community in regards to
career advancement. I work at a large organization which has:

1. Junior-level designers
2. Mid-level designers
3. Senior designers
4. Lead designers

There are a lot of Senior designers, most of which have been
designing for about 7+ years. Lead designers are more along the lines
of a Principal designer.

In this type of organization, what should the break-down be for each
title in terms of years of experience?

What would be the main difference between junior-level and mid-level?

Facebook Redesign

The new Facebook design looks like one of the busiest interfaces I've
seen in a while. It immediately reminded me of the Yahoo! homepage
back when... well, when it was too busy. Yet somehow, the Facebook
homepage makes sense, doesn't feel too overwhelming and is easily
navigable and parse-able.

I think there are two things going on here; one is that they did a
fairly good job following basic Gestalt principles of perception to
clearly chunk out the layout and establish hierarchy.

Forms design / labels inside the fields

In the company I'm working with a discussion has just been started;

TOPIC: Whether placing a labels inside the fields is a good idea or
not. This pattern is spreading recently (i.e. facebook) a lot.

Personally, I'm not supporting this idea for many reasons
(accessibility, patterns in an eye fixation on form elements etc).

Though, I'd like to avoid religious debate on this issue and follow
up with some objective studies and/or research.

Have you analyzed this issue before or seen some interesting
findings? User studies?
