IxDA Pittsburgh

Message to the group

IxDA is an organization devoted to serving the Interaction Design community in Pittsburgh through activities and discussions that facilitate growth, understanding, and development of the profession. IxDA pittsburgh is a chapter of the international Interaction Design Association.

Our events include speakers, panels and workshops and are held pretty much bi-monthly.. Rather than meeting on a specific day or week, we remain flexible, scheduling events to meet the availability of speakers, hosts, and organizers. Some of the previous hosts of our events are listed in the Local links section. We also meet informally on a monthly basis for alternating happy hour/coffee shop meetups in different locations around the city. These provide a way for members to meet other local designers, talk about trends in the industry, and share projects, problems and ideas.

Our members include anyone who is interested in facilitating positive and engaging experiences for people. Our practitioners are interaction designers, industrial designers, visual designers, product designers, developers, game designers, roboticists - you name it. To become a member, all you have to do is create an account on IxDA.org, subscribe to our mailing lists to learn about events and show up. We try to keep all of our events totally free. You can also find us on Facebook or follow us on twitter @IxDAPGH. Please join us!

[IxDA Pittsburgh] Matt Powers - Smart and Beautiful: Designing Robots and Intelligent Machines, Thursday, January 24.

Robots have been imagined in popular science fiction for decades. These devices have always fascinated us and held great promise as a technology. Real robots have been a long time coming, and sometimes it seems like robots have gone the way of the flying car and the hoverboard. However, practical, useful robots are on the horizon and robotic technologies are already in some of the devices we use in our daily lives. If these devices are going to succeed, we need to step back and think about the design implications of robots and intelligent machines working in our world.

Reminder - [IxDA Pittsburgh] Panel Discussion - UX Within an Organization - this Thursday!

Hi everyone. Just a reminder that our panel discussion around being a member of a UX team within a broader organization will be held this Thursday, November 15th!

A handful of local designers will take questions and reflect on their roles. How does UX gain a foothold, or create a new type of spark, within an organization? How might a lone designer start to grow into a UX group? Generously hosted by Confluence, at 600 River Avenue on the North Shore.
