UI as a sales pitch - Animated interfaces?

Hi all,

I just caught this article on Wired, entitled "Kiss Boring Interfaces
Goodbye With Apple's New Animated OS"

The discussion in the article, which is largely about the UI advances
the Core Animation feature of Leopard will make possible, reminded me
of the discussion we've been having about how the iPhone ads are
touting the UI as a feature and how novel that is.

My general attitude towards this article is one of cautious
skepticism, like

Leopard & Core animation ... Wired says it will change the desktop forever

Can someone who is a cult of Mac person be so kind as to explain the
reality behind this hyped up article on "Core Animation" in the new
version of Mac OS X.

One person is quoted as saying its the best thing since Mac OS
delivered in 1984.

Just a little guy looking for a reality check.

Thoughts about animations/transitions in GUIs

I'm at the moment studding animations in GUI's .

I hope that the list can provide me with some thoughts about the use
