Design meetups in NYC oriented more towards graphic/visual design?

I like IxDA NYC events a lot. But I am also interested ones that are a
bit more visuals- and graphic-design-oriented. Do you go to any
similar NYC events/communities that are more along those lines?

Formatting field labels and field values

Hello All,

I searched through the threads and did not find anything on the topic.

Our application, a web-based CRM, offers a number of reports. When designing
the report, I formatted the reports so that field labels appear smaller and
paler than values. The rationale: focus the attention of people to the data
not to the labels.

Some colleagues of mine strongly oppose this approach and want field labels
to be bold and the same font size as values, claiming that this is a
standard way of doing it.

Can an interaction designer creat (great) interaction without (great) visual design skills?

Hi all,

in my daily work as an interaction designer I mostly create wireframes and
support the visual designers in their creation of the visual design for
these wireframes.

I notice though, that there is a strong dependency on how/if the interaction
will work and the (eventual) visual design.

My question: can an interaction designer create great working interaction
without having visual design skills?

Kind regards,
Rein Groot

[IxDA-SF EVENT] Herding Cats and Taming Lions: Using Facilitation Skills to Create Better Design

Hello friends!

Our May event is actually dipping into the first part of June
(Tuesday, 6/3), but we have a great one planned! Jon Litell of Hot
Studio will be talking about facilitation and other underrepresented
but vital “soft skills”. Adaptive Path will be our gracious hosts for
the evening, and we’re planning another Hiring Salon (employers/
recruiters: bring job descriptions to share).
