Open Source Design for a More Inclusive Healthcare Experience

17 Apr 2023

—

7min.

Healthcare is not like any other industry. When designing for healthcare experiences, it is important to recognize the ethical dimension that medicine brings with it. It’s our health, our very life, is at stake. Healthcare was and still is fragmented between different providers, using different software and technologies, based on conflicting if not opposing standards and designs. Different incentives are at play. This tendency will be even more exacerbated as the number of digital health applications increases.

The aim of Open-Source Health Design is to allow for a more organic, decentralized growth of health experiences and technology artifacts as well as share digital design best practices and encourage regulatory bodies and individuals to contribute within an open framework to maximize benefits to humankind. When self-primary care tools and outpatient experiences are open-sourced, healthcare becomes not only accessible but inclusive to all types of conditions and social circumstances.
