The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate among developed countries, with Black women more likely to die from pregnancy complications than any other demographic group. So, how might we (Black women) reimagine prenatal care for Black mothers and their families? This was the prompt for the inaugural strategic design program hosted by NEXAR Creative. Overall, this talk will walk through the experience of guiding nine Black women — all current and aspiring researchers across the globe — in a challenge that explored how speculative and strategic design could be leveraged to build new ventures for a dire community need.
